Sarah A. Choujounian; Councillor Ainslie barbecue Aug 9th
I caught the last few hours of the College of Nurses hearing of Sarah Choujounian on the 8th. Notwithstanding the drama on June 30th, Ms Choujounian was back with her lawyer Alexander Boissonneau-Lehner and her witness Dr Steven Pelech. For the entire time I listened, Mr Boissonneau-Lehner was putting footnotes from Dr Pelech’s report into evidence as informational exhibits! This seemed to be a complete waste of time to me but I don’t understand the subtleties of evidenciary rules and it may have some bearing on a potential appeal. Counsel for the College commented at the end that when they conferred with Mr Boissonneau-Lehner pre-hearing they had suggested that he simply provide a written list of informational exhibits. I cringe at the cost to Ms. Choujounian. This is an extremely expensive way to debate science. The next COVID-19 hearing for Sarah A. Choujounian (then click on Essential Information) is September 15th. It usually starts at 9:30am. Email HearingsAdministrationGroup@cnomail.org for the hearing link on YouTube.
As expected Councillor Ainslie continued to disappoint at his barbecue. As a legislator one would think he would be concerned about producing legislation that is compatible with the Charter but when I mentioned that Chapter 743-36A Streets and Sidewalks probably violates the Charter (specifically 2b Freedom of Expression) Councillor Ainslie simply said he is not a lawyer and couldn’t discuss it. The courts tend to be extremely deferential to legislatures leaving me to wonder which government institutions, if any, care about upholding the Charter… Councillor Ainslie had also not heard about the National Citizens Inquiry even though he was on the Toronto Board of Health throughout the pandemic. There were a couple of public health booths set up in the park and we had some fairly extensive discussions with them. I was somewhat encouraged that they seem to at least be aware of some of the damage public health has done to itself during the pandemic in the eyes of a significant part of the population.
