Sarah A. Choujounian; Upcoming Events
The College of Nurses spent the afternoon of Monday September 25th cross examining the qualifications of Dr. Byram Bridle, Ms. Choujounian’s second defence expert witness. College lawyer Megan Shortreed pointed out at length that Dr Bridle works with animals at a Veterinary School. Dr Bridle countered that our understanding of the human immune system largely comes from animal models and pointed out that he was involved in research on a human vaccine for SARS-COV-2. The College pointed out at length that Dr. Bridle is not an MD and therefore has no legal authority to treat patients including to prescribe vaccines, has no legal authority to issue public health orders etc. I found this to be a scary argument that would essentially reduce the pool of potential expert witnesses to professions that are being muzzled by their regulatory bodies. Ms. Choujounian doesn’t have any MDs testifying in her defense. I thought Dr. Bridle responded effectively by distinguishing credentials and legal authority from depth of knowledge and arguing that he had far deeper expertise in immunology and vaccinology than most MDs. Dr Bridle pointed out that by publishing papers he was giving generic treatment advice to MDs and even potentially to patients. Dr. Bridle contended he was legally entitled to do this even though he was not an MD. The College lawyer, Megan Shortreed, did find some inconsistencies in his résumé, which is over 100 pages long. Dr. Bridle acknowledged he has trouble keeping it up to date. I thought Dr Bridle did well under cross and was easier to follow than Ms Choujounian’s lawyer, Alexander Boissonneau-Lehner, who can be long winded and meandering. But everything will depend on what if anything the hearing panel qualifies Dr. Bridle to be an expert in. BTW Dr. Bridle had a visible tic and looks like he’s been under a lot of stress. I also cringe at the cost to Ms. Choujounian of another whole day just to attempt to qualify her expert witness.
