Fisman's Fraud: The Rise of Canadian Hate Science; more Emergencies Act ruling
Impact of population mixing between vaccinated and unvaccinated subpopulations on infectious disease dynamics: implications for SARS-CoV-2 transmission was an article by David Fisman and others that was used to blame the unvaccinated for the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. This paper was already heavily critiqued in the comments in the Canadian Medical Journal at the time. Fisman's Fraud: The Rise of Canadian Hate Science is a book by Dr. Regina Watteel digging into the issues with this article in more depth and analyzing how it was so widely taken up and used at the time. Natali Morris interview Dr. Watteel on Redacted here. We need to fix these issues so they don’t happen again.
Runkle of the Bailey has a 3:31 hour marathon deep dive into the Mosely ruling on the Emergencies Act. Mark Mancini also reviewed the Mosely ruling
Mancini states “this [the law of how to perform judicial review] is very much a matter in flux, and so any confident predictions on the results of an appeal are unlikely to be more than speculation” which confirms my comments last week. A pretty sad state for a supposed democracy.
