RFK Jr. retires ACIP; Ongoing Bill C-2 Strong Borders, Ostriches
The US Health and Human Services (HHS) CDC Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) makes non-binding recommendations on whether to approve vaccines in the US. This week HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. retired all 17 existing members and began replacing them with 8 new members. ACIP approval plays an important role in legitimizing vaccines. The Highwire and others have long criticized ACIP for conflict of interest and lack of scientific curiosity in approving vaccines in almost rubber stamp fashion. In the tweet announcing the changes Kennedy stated
All of these individuals are committed to evidence-based medicine, gold-standard science, and common sense. They have each committed to demanding definitive safety and efficacy data before making any new vaccine recommendations. The committee will review safety and efficacy data for the current schedule as well.
Meanwhile another arm of HHS, the FDA, approved Merck’s monoclonal antibody shot, which the company said is designed to protect newborns and infants against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in spite of serious adverse events in clinical trials. The FDA has also recently approved lab grown salmon under RFK Jr.’s watch. Let’s hope that more scientific rigour will eventually permeate HHS.
The Democracy Fund comments on privacy erosion in Bill C-2 Strong Borders. Expect more privacy and freedom implications to emerge as outside groups work through this huge bill sponsored by our Scarborough Guildwood Rouge Park MP Gary Anandasangaree.
